Events, Exhibitions and Collaborations

Events

We sometimes get asked to bring our Adana presses to a location in order to run a pop-up workshop for a special event. These have included the following:

Global Workshop event for a craft beer company in Shoreditch
Employees of Pilsner Beer from all around the world were invited to experience the craft traditions of Shoreditch as a team building and networking event. They finished the evening by letterpress printing a postcard keepsake of the experience.

One day workshop at the University of Wales Trinity St David
We were asked to run a one-day Adana press workshop in the graphic design department for the tutors so that they could provide a basic letterpress facility for the students.

Clerkenwell Design Week 2014
One day Adana press event for any delegates who wanted to come along to try letterpress printing. We set up 4 presses, each with a different colour and text and then the participant printed one card, moving along the presses to build up a composite typographic postcard based on the theme of the ‘Smiths of Clerkenwell (ie. the metal workers)’.

Ally Capellino Valentine’s Day event for The Art Room charity
We took our Adana presses to the Portobello Road and Shoreditch branches of Ally Capellino for participants to print their own Valentine's Day cards. All proceeds went to charity.

Secret Cinema
At the secret screening of The Red Shoes in Tobacco Wharf, we recreated an old fashioned print shop set in late 1940s Covent Garden, where the audience could print a postcard keepsake.

Yellowdoor
As part of a fashion preview event, fashion journalists and industry PRs printed personal name cards which they set and printed themselves to experience the letterpress process at first hand.

Exhibitions

Type From London
We were invited by a Tokyo production company to join six other London-based letterpress printers to participate in an exhibition, Type From London. We were commissioned to design and print a limited edition based on the theme of 'What London means to us'. This was exhibited in the Paul Smith Gallery in Tokyo and then moved to Osaka and Fukuoka.

Well Said!
Along with eleven other artists we took part in an exhibition at the RSC in Stratford Upon Avon to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. We were given a quote from A Winter's Tale by the writer Jeanette Winterson and had free reign to interpret it 'as we liked it'. We made a hand bound letterpress printed book, through which the quote was printed along with explanatory text from Jeanette Winterson.

Collaborations

Acland Burghley School, Tufnell Park
We collaborated with The Base, a department at our local secondary school on a project with Year 10 students. They designed and produced a range of greetings cards to raise money for charity as part of The Prince’s Trust Enterprise Scheme.
