Workshops

The workshop covers the following aspects of letterpress printing with one-to-one teaching:

  • Basic introduction to design and typography
  • Hand-setting metal type and locking up in a chase
  • Printing on an Adana 8×5 or a Farley proofing press
  • Simple bookbinding and finishing, depending on your project
We have a range of text typefaces including Gill Sans, Bembo and Garamond in point sizes from 6pt to 72pt as well as smaller amounts of more unusual faces. We also have a selection of wooden type. You may have a specific project in mind such as a business card, personal stationery or postcards, or you may want to come and just experiment. If you require special paper stock you are welcome to bring your own paper, otherwise we will provide all paper and other materials as well as lunch.
At the end of the day, we give you a list of useful contacts and suppliers, should you want to buy a press and start your own letterpress work.

How to book a workshop
Workshops cost £175 per person per day, including lunch and materials. We run our workshops once a week, from Monday to Friday, all year round except December and August. The day starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm.
Please call or email with your preferred dates so that we can then find a mutually convenient day. There is a maximum of two people due to the size of our workshop. Come with a friend or else we sometimes pair up two people who have booked the same day.
Once the date is agreed, we require a £50 deposit per person to secure the booking. This deposit is refundable only if we have a one week notice of cancellation.

Gift vouchers
may also be bought for our workshops.

Testimonials from workshopees
A big THANK YOU for a brilliant day yesterday. I had a great time, went home and started bidding for an 8×5 Adana on eBay. Thanks for being so welcoming, enthusiastic and for looking after us with tea and lunch.
Ida Rezvani

I just wanted to thank you both so much for your time yesterday, on the workshop. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed it and really appreciated your help and patience with me. My head was absolutely buzzing with ideas last night and spent all the train journey home furiously making notes while it was all still fresh in my mind. It was such a pleasure to learn something new and from such inspiring teachers as yourselves! I’m itching to start experimenting and practising with my presses but alas I have a few orders to fulfill first this week! But I can’t wait to get started.

Thank you both for the MOST brilliant day with you both on Monday…. I cherished every moment.
Eleanor Tattersfield

Thank you for such a fantastic introduction to letterpress last month. I had such a great time, I’ve been telling everyone who’ll listen how much I enjoyed it. I was so pleased with the ‘Save the Date’ cards we made I almost didn’t want to send them out!
Charlotte Middleton

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed my day with you last week. It really was a treat – thank you.
Charlie Lee Potter

As a recent graduate of one of your one day letterpress workshops, I could not let the opportunity pass without letting you know what a fantastic day I had at The Corridor. The day passed way too quickly and I found you both to be so wonderfully generous in the way you shared your experience, skills and obvious passion for Letterpress. The little books that we created together have definitely created the start of another Adana Junkie’s inky career. Thanks again to both of you.

Lenka designed and printed an edition of small, origami folding books using a combination of wooden and metal type and ornaments. They were printed on both the Adana press and the Farley proofing press.
Caroline and Sophie printed their own party invitations.
